not exactly Paul Revere

In the age of communicate first, think second I suppose it's not surprising that the sight of two school resource officers (our normal allotment is one) walking through the high school doors would lead to a flurry of surreptitious calls and texts home, and then, as fast and accurate as an aboriginal boomerang, the electronic equivalent of parents marching into the office demanding to know why the school was locked down.

It wasn't, of course.

The side doors are always locked, even when some disturbed kid hasn't committed some unspeakable act thousands of miles away. Not that the distance is relevant, but still.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but the next time authorities are at a loss as to how to spread urgent news quickly, perhaps they could harness the power of high school kids with cell phones. The news may not be exactly accurate, but the alarm, it will be sounded.
